COVID-19 RESIDENCY
Front Line Artist in Long Term Care
MARCH
2020 - 2021
I realize now that I completed a year long artist’s residency at Long Term Care!
A year ago, my part time job turned full time, due to Covid-19. For fifteen years I have worked in the Studios of a Long Term Care facility where I shared my artistic knowledge and deepening empathy, with my elderly students at end of life.
March 2020 I moved from an open studio to a locked down unit of 40 residents. Wearing mask, shield and full PPE I have been accepted and trained by nursing staff to help in various capacities on the unit, meals, cleaning, personal needs, family calls, dancing and settling disputes.
When time permitted, between the day to day necessities of life, I engage the residents in clay art projects such as the Covid Flower Series.
